Expect Lake Tapps Levels To Drop This Week

The lake could drop by 2-1/2 feet by the end of this week.

BONNEY LAKE, WA - Expect the water level in Lake Tapps to drop by at least 2 feet by the end of this week as the Cascade Water Alliance moves to test a new valve.

The lake will drop an additional few feet by the end of January, reaching a low of about 536 feet, which is about 6 feet below normal levels when the lake is used for recreation. The lake should be back at those recreation levels by mid-April.

Cascade is testing a new $2 million valve, which will be able to operate the reservoir more reliably and safely.

Cascade is recommending that residents who want to do construction projects do so between February and early March, which is when lake levels will begin to rise again.
