In addition to free health screenings, Chompy the Carrot will offer oral health tips via engaging and interactive demonstrations. Other health organizations will also be on hand, both to provide information and to help facilitate referrals for additional care.
“Children’s Dental Health Day is a great way for families to get their children screened for a variety of dental problems,” according to Cheryl Jenkins, Executive Director of the Pierce County Dental Society. “We also work with families who don’t have insurance or are on Medicaid to refer them to providers, if additional services are needed,” Jenkins says.
Of course, free face painting and pictures with the tooth fairy make it easy for parents to mix in a bit of education – and remind youngsters of the importance of brushing, flossing and fluoride.
Children’s Dental Health Day is presented by the Pierce County Dental Society, the Pierce County Dental Foundation, Washington Dental Service Foundation and other local organizations. It’s free and open to everyone.
