Update: Gas Leak at Old Hancock Building Closed Streets in Sumner

East Pierce Firefighters responded to the gas leak report Thursday afternoon.

Update, 7:30 p.m.: East Pierce Fire & Rescue crews shut off gas service to the Old Hancock Building after responding to a report of a gas leak Thursday afternoon. Crews were able to ventilate the building and clear the scene.

A natural gas leak had roads closed in Sumner on Thursday afternoon, as East Pierce Firefighters responded to reports of a hissing sound and the smell of natural gas at the Old Hancock Building.

Sumner Police closed streets at Main Street and 150th Avenue East, and 64th Street East and 160th Avenue East, according to a post on the East Pierce Firefighters Facebook page at 4:30 p.m.

Crews were trying to shut off gas to the building, and Puget Sound Energy was on the way to help.
