Pierce County Changes Lahar Siren Test Noises
The next monthly lahar siren will sound very different from what longtime residents have grown accustomed to.
BONNEY LAKE, WA — The upcoming lahar siren test will sound very different from prior tests.
Pierce County Emergency Management has announced, in lieu of the regular siren noises, all lahar emergency tests going forward will instead use a chime tone, followed by a voice saying “this is a test.”

Some cities, like Sumner, have stepped up to sound the alarm that siren noises will be different, but that doesn't mean it's an emergency.

In the case of a real emergency, the sirens will blare as they always have.
