SR 410 Construction To Force Lane Closures, Potential Backups

The City of Sumner says commuters should consider avoiding the 410 for a few weeks as crews work on the state route's stormwater system.

SUMNER, WA — Sumner commuters may want to consider avoiding State Route 410 for the next few weeks, as a major construction project will be forcing intermittent lane closures during the work week.

Starting Monday, Oct. 19, crews will be working on the 410 interchange with Traffic Avenue in Sumner, forcing periodic single-lane closures in the area from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The right-turn lane from Traffic Avenue onto Thompson Street will also remain closed at this time. Drivers still can take the right from Traffic to Thompson, but without a dedicated turn lane may find the turn more difficult than usual.

During that closures, the City of Sumner says commuters should expect significant delays and should consider trying to take alternate routes through the area.

The city says the closure will allow crews to finish important stormwater drainage systems to prevent flooding. The project has been a long time in the making and is now in its final stages, but that also means its at the point it will impact traffic the most; While the lane closures are only announced for the week of Oct. 19, officials say it may be prudent to consider avoiding ther 410 and traffic interchange through Nov. 4.
