Sumner-Bonney Lake District Will Host In-Person Graduations

The ceremony is one of the district's first in-person events of the year, and also the last for the graduating Class of 2021.

BONNEY LAKE, WA — The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District is sending off the Class of 2021 with an in-person graduation ceremony, capping off a year spent largely stuck at home.

Both Bonney Lake High and Sumner High will get ceremonies at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma.

Bonney Lake High School's ceremony will be Thursday. Grads should show up at 4:45 p.m. and doors will open to everyone else at 5. Commencement begins at 6 p.m.

Sumner High School's graduation will be Friday, but will begin an hour later 7 p.m.

Anyone is welcome to attend either graduation, though for those who would rather watch remotely, the ceremonies will also be livestreamed online.

The in-person ceremony is likely to be a special treat for the graduating seniors, who have spent the year stuck in remote or hybrid learning programs — the district even had to hold prom remotely this year.
