Sumner-Bonney Lake School District Cancels Wednesday Classes

Classes were canceled Tuesday due to fires and power outages in the area. The district now says the closure will remain through Wednesday.

SUMNER, WA — The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District has announced that classes will be canceled for the second day in a row Wednesday.

Classes were canceled Tuesday morning after fires caused numerous power outages in the area and across Pierce County. The district announced late Tuesday that the situation had not improved enough for classes to return on the 9th. Several programs like meal service and other childcare services have also been cancelled.

As of Tuesday night, large swaths of Sumner and Bonney Lake remain without power. PSE crews have been working overtime to restore power and when they do, it's more likely that classes will resume.
