Sumner Fills City Council Vacancy
The new council member will fill the position until its original term ends on Dec. 31, 2021.
SUMNER, WA — The City of Sumner is celebrating its newest city council member, Josh Hamilton.
In early December, Sumner announced that they needed a community member to step up and fill a vacancy on the Sumner City Council. After nearly two months of applications and interviews, the council selected applicant Josh Hamilton to take the role at a meeting late Monday night.
Monday's council meeting had several applicants answer a few final questions before the council took a vote to select a new member. During questioning, Hamilton described himself as a long time resident of Sumner, who was raised in the city as a child and who is now raising his own family there.

"I have a passion for the City of Sumner, I was raised in Sumner. I chose to raise my family in Sumner. I don't think there's anyone who cares more about the city than I do, and I just want to help to continue to steer the direction of the City of Sumner for generations to come," Hamilton said.
Hamilton also cited his six years of experience working for the city's planning commission, saying it had made him informed on issues of city governance and would make him an easy fit on the council.

Hamilton went on to win the majority of the council's support, with four of the six acting council members voting to add him to the council.
Because Hamilton is filling a vacant position, his term will be shorter than most, and is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2021.
