Sumner Police: Firecracker Detonates in Portable Toilet, Thefts from Vehicles Reported at Area Post Offices and a DV Arrest

June 23, 2013
Explosive in Toilet: A citizen reported at 1 p.m. that a portable toilet next to the tennis courts at the Daffodil Valley Sports complex was smoldering with smoke due to a firework being set off inside. The responding officer noted the fire was out and there was little damage. Neighborhood kids reported seeing a group of juveniles in the area and possibly identified a minor responsible for the vandalism.
Attempted Break-in: Police responded to a home on the 2300 block of East Valley Highway at 5:04 p.m. for an activated burglary alarm and found a window had been pried open. With K9 help, officers did not locate anyone on the property and later determined though the window was damaged, no entry was made to the residence.

Vehicle Break-in: Police responded to the Sumner Post Office at 7:45 p.m. for a report of a theft from vehicle. The victim said he’d gone into the post office for a few minutes to check a P.O. Box and when he returned found the passenger side window had been smashed out and his wallet that had been sitting on the seat was gone. The officer noted a very similar incident was also reported at the Bonney Lake Post Office at 6:51 p.m.

Domestic Violence Arrest: A 19-year-old woman was arrested for fourth-degree domestic violence assault and minor in possession of alcohol after police responded to a residence on the 15800 block of Washington Street at 6:31 a.m. The woman’s ex-boyfriend reported they had recently broken up and she was reportedly causing a disturbance in the house and refusing to leave.Â
