Sumner Police: Responders Subdue Nude Man, Son Assaults Mother over $20 and Multiple Domestic Incidents

The following information from May 19 to June 5 was provided by the Sumner Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

May 19, 2013

Trespassing: On May 19, 2013 a father called advising a male subject just tried to enter his daughter’s bedroom window while she was sleeping and that he scared him off. Upon arrival the officers contacted the father at the front door who advised he was sleeping in the next room when he heard knocking outside his front door. He opened the door and found his daughter’s ex-boyfriend standing at the window, he then ran away when noticed. The daughter told the officer that he showed up unannounced earlier in the night and told her that he wanted to talk, she advised that she was not interested in talking to him and told him to leave so he left. He later came back which is when he was noticed by dad. The subject was later contacted by the police and was issued a trespass notification indicating that if he returns in the future he will be subject to arrest.

Domestic Disturbance: On May 25, 2013 a female subject called to report her brother assaulted their mother at their residence. Upon arrival one officer contacted the suspect while the other contacted the victim. The suspect advised that his mother owed him $20 so he grabbed it out of her pocket like he and his other brother do all the time. The victim advised that the suspect held her down in order to remove the money from her pocket and officers saw injuries on the victim consistent with her version of events and family members advised that the injury was not there before the altercation. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Puyallup Jail where he was booked for Assault 4thDegree/DV

Domestic Disturbance: On May 26, 2013 an officer responded to a domestic disturbance call where the father refused to give his daughter drug money so she was threatening to kill herself. Officers arrived and approached the daughter who tried to walk away as soon as she noticed officers on scene. Officers told her she could not leave and she got angry and went after her father. An officer grabbed a hold of her arm and she tried to pull away; they had to then walk her from the area to remove her from the situation where she was then placed into handcuffs. She confirmed with the officers that she wanted to kill herself and continued to say so throughout the contact. 

May 30, 2013

Dispute: On May 30, 2013 an officer was dispatched to a report of a dispute between a tenant and his guest. The tenant told the officer that he was in an argument with his guest because the guest continued to use drugs. The tenant advised that his guest was supposed to be clean from drugs and he was going to allow him to move in. The tenant said he observed the guest using illegal drugs and no longer wanted him in the house. The tenant also believes the guest is stealing his daughter’s prescription medication but never saw him do it. The guest said he was willing to leave the house and not return and he was formally trespassed in writing; he was advised not to return to the property or be subject to arrest. The guest took most of his belongings and left on foot. 

May 31, 2013

Commercial Burglary: A staff member at Powers Funeral Home reported at 9:36 a.m. that someone had broken into a shed located behind the crematory on the 12400 block of Valley Avenue East. An alarm was activated at 5:16 a.m. and an employee responded at 5:30 a.m. to find the shed had been forced open. Only a metal gas can appeared to be missing.

Domestic: On May 31, 2013 officers were called by a neighbor to a domestic dispute in progress in one of the apartment units near hers. Upon arrival officers went to the unit where the problem was and could hear a female shouting loudly and slamming doors. Officers knocked on the door and the door came open revealing two adults inside. One officer spoke with each party. It was determined that the female wanted to talk to the male about their relationship and he didn’t want to talk about it. He went into the bathroom to get away from her which made her mad so she was yelling loudly at him for a while when the police showed up. Both parties advised they had not been assaulted and that it was just verbal. Both parties were advised that their neighbors can hear them and that the yelling has got to stop. Both agreed to stop the yelling and said they would talk rationally about it later.

June 1, 2013

Public Urination: Police were alerted that at about 1 p.m. on May 31, a man was seen urinating in public in the parking lot behind Midtown Station with his pants down around his ankles. He then left in a black Dodge minivan. He was described as a white man about 50 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing about 400 pounds, with brown hair. 

June 4, 2013

Disorderly Conduct: A man who was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital after being sedated  faces charges of disorderly conduct and third degree malicious mischief.  Police were called to the Daffodil Apartments for a report of a nude man “going crazy” and waving his underwear in the air. Responding officers verified no shots were filed though the man did throw a 5-gallon paint can through a window. An acquaintance told police he suffers from post traumatic stress disorder but officers also noted he was sweating profusely while he acted out, indicating he was under the influence. The man has had contact with police three times in 2012 with each incident involving him being combative – he was Tased during one of the incidents. Records showed during one of the incidents he admitted to doctors he was on methamphetamines.

June 5, 2013

Stolen Vehicle: A resident on the 1400 block of Bonney Avenue reported at 2:16 p.m. that her vehicle had been stolen overnight sometime between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. She told police she suspected an acquaintance had taken her vehicle without permission.
