SUMNER, WA — One person is in custody after a SWAT operation in Sumner Tuesday.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department sent out a warning just after 4:30 p.m. confirming that their SWAT team had been called to help out patrol deputies in arresting a "wanted subject" who had been seen near the city limits.

Less than five minutes later, the sheriff's department confirmed that their suspect was in custody. Deputies say the 46-year-old man was wanted on several warrants for assault, malicious mischief and an escape warrant. At some point during the arrest, the man had refused to leave with officers, but negotiators convinced him to surrender, and he was taken into custody without incident.
