U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Mercer Island, Announces College Internship Program for 2011

U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Mercer Island, announced Friday that his office is accepting internship applications for college students to work in Washington, D.C. and on Mercer Island.

Reichert represents Sammamish and other Eastside cities. The program helps students learn about the U.S. House of Representatives and how a congressional office operates, his office said. Students can gather news stories, answer phones and research legislative issues.

Internships are offered from January to April (spring), May to August (summer) and September to December (fall). Applicants need to download an application from Reichert's website and submit a cover letter, resume, two letters of recommendation and at least two writing samples.

College students might be able to receive academic credit for the internship.

Reichert represents the Eighth Congressional District in Washington state. In January, Reichert was appointed to the House Ways and Means Subcomittees on Trade and Health.

In the House, the Ways and Means Committee is largely responsible for writing tax legislation. Reichert is ninth in seniority on the Ways and Means Committee.
