Young Musicians Have Until Feb. 1 to Apply for "Ten Grands" Benaroya Hall Competition

Young musicians in Sammamish and throughout the state, Oregon and Idaho have until Feb. 1 to apply for the "Ten Grands Young Artist" competition.

The finalists will perform at Benaroya Hall on April 1. There also is a $1,000 scholarship associated with the competition.

Last year, two Sammamish residents were among the top 10 finalists. They were: Matt DeLuca, who plays the marimba, and Carly Ann Worden, who plays the piano and is a composer.

At the time, both were  students and Sammamish residents, said Cheri Brennan, a publicist who is helping spread the word about the competition.

Classical KING FM (98.1 FM) is sponsoring the contest. An application is available at the radio station's website. The station will accept YouTube entry clips no longer than five minutes until Feb. 1.
