Boys Lacrosse: Fonte Drives Eastlake Into State Quarterfinals
Sammamish's Eastlake defeated Curtis, 19-10 in a quarterfinal play off Tuesday night in Sammamish.

Josiah Fonte scored a season-high eight goals to lead Eastlake into the quarterfinals of the Washington Lacrosse Boys State Tournament with a 19-10 first-round playoff defeat of Curtis, Tuesday at Eastlake High School in Sammamish. Â
Fonte’s eight-goal, two-assist performance more doubled the senior attackman’s previous highs of four goals achieved twice during the regular season. Â
Eastlake moved out to a 5-3 advantage in the first than poured on seven more in the second while holding Curtis to just a pair to take a 12-5 lead at the half. Â
In the second half, the Wolves again outscored the Vikings 4-3 in the third and 3-2 in the fourth to close-out the game and advance to the next round of the state tournament. Â
Eastlake also received top performances from brothers Austin and Davis Caldwell, who each had four goals. Â
Curtis was led by Ryder Choate and Beau Olson who each tallied three goals, while goaltender Zach Budnick had 10 saves between the Vikes’ pipes. Â
The win sets up a reunion of sorts in the state quarterfinals on Thursday, May 23 between Eastlake (10-6-0) and its first-year coach Chris O’Dougherty and defending state champion Bellevue (18-2-0) and their coach John Bauman, who O’Dougherty served under as an assistant coach. Â
The game gets underway at 7 p.m. at Bellevue High School. In their only other meeting this season, O’Dougherty’s Wolves dropped an 18-2 decision to Bellevue on April 2. Â
Curtis finishes its season with a 6-12-0 record. Â
