Eastside Fire Crew Douses Small Brush Fire in Klahanie Area of Plateau

Emergency disparchers received the call for help at 12:05 p.m.

A Sammamish-based crew from Eastside Fire & Rescue helped extinguish a small brush blaze in the Klahanie section of the Plateau Wednesday afternoon, agency spokeswoman Josie Williams said.

A three-person team from  arrived in the 4200 block of Klahanie Drive, just behind a community swimming pool, after the call for help came in at 12:05 p.m.

The fire burned in an area 20 feet by 20 feet under some trees, Williams said. Crews used hoses from Engine 83 to put the flames out. The crew was still on the scene around 12:30 p.m. to make sure that nothing flared back up.

“It’s small, but we’re calling an investigator to check it out,” Williams said.

She reminded residents in the Sammamish area to use extra caution . The National Weather Service reports that Sammamish could see a high of 84 degrees on Wednesday.

“There are so many different ways it can start,” she said, referring to people tossing cigarettes near dry brush. “We’re in a high fire danger period.”

She recommended people visit the Firewise.org website to learn more about how they can prevent a blaze.

On Twitter (@EastsideFire), Williams cited state statistics and reminded people that seven out of 10 fires are started by humans.
