Eastside Fire Crews Fight Two Fires Near Issaquah

Firefighters from the Eastside and neighboring areas responded to a fully-involved house fire Thursday afternoon.

ISSAQUAH, WA — A house fire south of Issaquah required a regional response Thursday afternoon, after reports of 30-foot flames from the attic area.

Eastside Fire crews responded to the rural home off Issaquah-Hobart road, in the hills north of the May Valley Road cutoff, shortly after 11 a.m. Crews remained on scene at 1 p.m. and expected to be there well into the afternoon, a spokesman for department said.

According to firefighters, the house's attic was engulfed in flames when crews arrived, but all residents were able to safely evacuate. Firefighters faced water supply challenges, with no hydrants in the area, and had to rely on water tenders. Additional help arrived from Puget Sound Fire a short time later.

Eastside Fire said the home is a total loss and suffered a collapse. Investigators will determine the fire's cause after flames are fully extinguished.

The busy afternoon continued as Eastside Fire crews were called to a separate grass fire on the 208th block of May Valley Road, shortly before 1 p.m. A spokesperson for the department said the second fire was only a couple hundred yards from a fire station and was quickly handled. Investigators believe an electrical pole sparked, igniting the flames, and Puget Sound Energy crews were called to the scene. The resulting power outage affected several homes in the area.
