Vedic Cultural Center to Celebrate Kumbha Mela Festival

The will celebrate the Kumbha Mela Festival, beginning Saturday evening and lasting until Aug. 28.

The festival celebrates the culture of India, spirituality and Krishna's appearance 5,000 years ago, Harivilas Das, temple president said.

He said a rolling crowd of about 15,000 people is expected during the overall festival, which celebrates cooperation. A large inflatable cow is at the entrance of the pink temple.

Das said the cow eats grass, produces milk and helps give strength. There will be music, dancing, plays and singing.

On Sunday, the festival will begin at noon and last until 1 a.m. on Monday. From Monday to Friday, it will last from 7 to 10 p.m.

On Aug. 27 and 28, it will last from noon until 10 p.m.
