Gilman Village Fire Contained After Crews Knock Down Flames
Eastside Fire & Rescue crews overcame high heat and heavy smoke Tuesday afternoon to quickly extinguish a fire at the Egg and Us restaurant.

ISSAQUAH, WA — Eastside fire crews tackled a working fire at the Gilman Village shopping center Tuesday afternoon, as flames sent up a visible smoke plume and drew a large emergency response to the area. In a social media post shortly before 5 p.m., Eastside Fire & Rescue asked neighbors to avoid the area while firefighting efforts continued.

Eastside battalion chief Dana Schutter told Patch the fire was burning inside the Egg and Us restaurant, and firefighters were working to locate the source of the flames against high heat and heavy smoke. Schutter said an initial search of the structure suggested everyone had made it to safety.

Within 20 minutes, firefighters reported the flames were under control and crews were shifting their efforts to contain hot spots. A final search of the restaurant confirmed no one was inside, officials said.
Several photos shared on Twitter showed smoke rising from the building as fire crews worked to extinguish the flames. Details on the extent of the damage or the suspected cause of the fire were not immediately available.
