Issaquah Tries New Approach To Package Thefts: Doorbell Cameras
The city has partnered with the company Ring to lend security cameras.

ISSAQUAH, WA - It's the season for giving and receiving. But sometimes a person receives a gift ... illegally.
As package thefts spike around the holidays, the Issaquah Police Department is teaming up with Ring.com to try a new approach to deter the season-specific crime. The department has purchased a number of doorbell cameras, which it will loan to residents through the holiday season.
The cameras will allow residents to monitor their property. That way, they can see if someone is on their property and potentially prevent a crime from happening. If a package is stolen, the cameras may provide an image of the criminal, allowing the police to track them down.

Community Resource Officer Ryan Smith told Patch.com that the department has already lent out a couple of the cameras. The program has raised a lot of interest, Smith said, although they only have a few cameras available. Learn more about package safety and the Ring program here.
