Lacrosse in the Snow? When it was 29 Degrees? Yes, on Saturday, on the Sammamish Plateau
Chilly temperatures and enough snow to think you were at a higher elevation didn't stop a Saturday pre-season lacrosse jamboree on the Sammamish Plateau.
Parents were bundled in their scarves and other cold-weather gear such that a visitor would think they were at a high-elevation ski resort.
But the youths on the playfields at  for this game on Saturday only sported shorts and their maroon or blue-and-orange jerseys.
No down or fleece for them.

Eastside Crusaders Youth Lacrosse sponsored a pre-season lacrosse jamboree on the Sammamish Plateau on Saturday. And just like the U.S. Postal Service and Broadway in New York City, the show went on.
Of course, not before players and others grabbed shovels starting Friday to clear the snow from the synthetic fields.

Teams came from Bainbridge Island, Shoreline, Monroe, Bellingham, Lynnwood, Mukilteo and University Place for the jamboree, which also had games at and .
Parents on the sidelines said the players for this particular game involving Eastside and Eastlake were around the middle school school age. A few, though, had sprouted so tall that they could easily be picked for a high school basketball team.
To get good views or around the field, parents manevuered over small mounds of snow. Players who rested on the sidelines stood on top of a few snow piles.
Coaches yelled instructions from the sidelines. Some parents snapped photographs from the sidelines - and yes, while they stood on small mounds of snow.
Of course, people cheered when one team scored.
At times, snow flakes drifted in the air, reminding Sammamish residents that while spring might be getting closer it still was winter.
Or as one mom said to another when the two passed: "Stay warm."
As she said that, though, kids in shorts trotted and sprinted by her on the field - trying to put the ball in the net.
It was a good thing it wasn't, say, 27 or 28 degrees on Saturday. If it was that cold, organizers might have had to call the jamboree off.
The Saturday jamboree was scheduled to start at 9 am and end at 7 pm. The regular lacrosse season, parents said, starts soon.Â
