Sammamish Church Will Host Blood Drive In Early March

Mary Queen of Peace will host a popup blood drive beginning March 1, as blood banks work to correct a significant shortage in local supply.

SAMMAMISH, WA — A Sammamish church will open its doors for blood donors during the first 11 days of March, as Bloodworks Northwest seeks to offset a regionwide shortage in supply resulting from recent snowstorms.

Earlier in the week, Bloodworks issued an urgent call for donors after more than 800 appointments were canceled due to winter weather. The blood bank supports nearly 100 hospitals in Western Washington and Oregon and said they only collected 52 percent of its needed blood during the three days of snowfall.

In Sammamish, Mary Queen of Peace will host a Pop-up donation center from March 1 to March 11.

All donations require an appointment, and the pop-up clinic cannot accept walk-ins, guests, or people under 16 years old. Masks must be worn at all times by donors and staff. Anyone who has recently received a coronavirus vaccination must wait at least two weeks before donating blood. All donations are also screened for the presence of COVID-19 antibodies. As an added incentive, all donors who give blood by March 17 will be automatically entered for a chance to win a car.
