Sammamish Leads Country In Median Income, New Report Says
A new Census Bureau report has several Eastside cities near the top.
SAMMAMISH, WA — New numbers from the Census Bureau place the city of Sammamish at the very top of the list when it comes to median household income. The Seattle Times reports the survey found the median slightly above $183,000 in 2018, leading 629 other cities. The median means about half the households measured made more than that amount and the other half made less.
Sammamish's closest neighbors take the state's other top spots, with Redmond, Kirkland and Bellevue all ahead of Seattle, which ranked fifth in Washington at $93,500. It's also the first time Sammamish has been tracked in the report, with population estimates crossing the 65,000 threshold last year.
According to the Seattle Times, all the other cities rounding out the national top 5 are in California's Bay Area. The same report found the median income for the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue area overall grew by about 4 percent last year.
