Sammamish Officer Shot At While Checking On Open Garage Door
According to the King County Sheriff's Office, a homeowner fired one shot at an officer who knocked on his front door.
SAMMAMISH, WA — A police officer performing a welfare check was nearly shot by a Sammamish homeowner Thursday night, the sheriff's office said Friday.
According to a news release, the officer responded to the 26900 block of Southeast 22nd Way after a resident noticed their neighbor's garage door was left open. The caller attempted to notify their neighbor but received no answer when they knocked on the door.
A police officer arrived at 11:40 p.m. and knocked on the door again. According to the officer, the homeowner immediately pointed a handgun at him and pulled the trigger, narrowly missing him with a single shot. The officer notified dispatch that he was shot at and waited for backup to arrive at a safe distance.

King County's major crimes unit responded, and the homeowner, a 68-year-old man, was arrested without incident and booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree assault.
The sheriff's office said the officer was uninjured but "understandably shaken and taking a few days off."
