It was a bit of a heavy week in Sammamish and the area with news on Saturday that Rachel Beckwith, an Issaquah girl, had died after suffering serious injuries earlier in the week in a 14-vehicle accident on Interstate 90.
Also, this past week, three teenage boys - including a 16-year-old from Sammamish - were sent to hospitals after the car they were traveling in, a 2007 Subaru Impreza, hit a tree in the city.
On the flipside: The Eastlake Little League All-Stars had an incredible come-from-behind victory in the District 9 championship game.

Monday: Sammamish Patch real estate columnist Joan Probala reminds homeowners that maintaining property helps in the long run - especially when it comes to selling. The city of Sammamish reminded residents that initial work on Southeast 32nd Street would start during the week -with major efforts beginning on July 25.

Redmond Town Center officials said they were looking for a tenant, given that Borders is closing its stores nationwide. The Washington Secretary of State announced its "Corporations for Communities" award for businesses in Washington.
Tuesday:Â Sammamish basketball players, take note: There's a three-on-three competition in Kent. You can play if you have a team and register on time. If you're a local historian or writer, Arcadia Publishing is looking for an author to work on a photographic history book about Sammamish.
Wednesday: Eastlake Little League's All-Star team, in the "Majors" catetgory, had an incredible rally to win in the District 9 championship.
Sammamish Patch parenting columnist Kathleen Miller wrote about swim lessons for kids - and for a good reason. Lessons can help kids survive in the water.
There also was the news about the 14-vehicle crash on Interstate 90, near Interstate 405. It involved two heavy trucks, among others. A 9-year-old girl from Issaquah, Rachel Beckwith, was critically hurt in the crash.
Earlier in the week, the Sammamish approved Shoreline Master Plan revisions. The approved revisions are now before the state Department of Ecology for final review.
Thursday: By the morning, there was news of three teenage boys who were hurt in a car crash in Sammamish. Officials believe speed was a factor - and their car hit a tree.
In Sammamish police news, there were cases of credit card fraud and a cashier's check swindle, as well as the case of a motorist who rolled his car onto its roof.
Also, if you need to go to the Hopelink office - the nonprofit helps families in need - the group will have a new location soon.
Friday: Patch.com sites had a reminder about Borders holding closing sales - so, use your gift cards at the store before July is over and there are savings up to 40 percent off.
Saturday: Family and friends mourned the loss of Rachel Beckwith, the 9-year-old girl from Issaquah. She died Saturday after suffering critical injuries in the 14-vehicle accident on Interstate 90 earlier in the week.
In pet adoption news, Luna, the dog, is looking for a place to call a permanent home. Edmonds Patch editor Heidi Dietrich looked at why more men than women are bicycle commuters in the Seattle area.
Sunday: The Washington State Patrol is reminding motorists of a new law in which those cited for DUI will have their vehicles impounded.
