Week in Review: The Sammamish Farmers Market Started for the Season, Skyline and Eastlake Head to State Semifinals in Soccer

It was another busy week in Sammamish. Here are stories to review, as the coming week approaches.

Sammamish continued to have its healthy share of news and events in the past seven days - with police and sports news, as well as the Relay For Life event at Skyline High School.

Even the bloodmobile from the Puget Sound Blood Center pulled into the parking lot of on Saturday for donations.

As always, Sundays make for a good day to look back on what unfolded. Here are some of the news and events that occurred:

Monday: Sammamish Patch posted its video report of of the Relay For Life event at . It happened on Saturday and Sunday. Sammamish Path real estate columnist Joan Probala talked about how a family from California found comfort - and a house - in Sammamish.

An Eastlake Fire & Rescue coordinator thanked everyone who has helped with Emergency Medical Services, given that it was National EMS Week. People also prepared for the launch of the Sammamish Farmers Market.

Tuesday: Sammamish Patch posted a note from Principal Roy Adler, who thanked Jan Bennett. She retired as attendance secretary on Friday, after being involved with the for decades.

Two students from also won a MOHAI/SIFF film award for their short on history. They interviewed classmates and a teacher.

Wednesday: Sammamish Patch parenting columnist Kathleen Miller had an insightful article, giving families suggestions for summer reading for kids of all ages.

Businessman Peter Fung paid more than $4,180 to the city of Sammamish - money he owed to the city and taxpayers for construction-related services he had received. Others, including developers, still owe the city and taxpayers money.

The Census Bureau released data, which show that the number of houses, condominiums and apartments in Sammamish kept pace with population growth since 2000.

Thursday: Video of the first day of the Sammamish Farmers Market was on Sammamish Patch. There also was the Sammamish police blotter and an incident in which a driver, who was arrested for DUI, said he was a member of the Washington State University football team.

Sammamish Patch blogger Kimberley Hornsby posted a humorous look at the upcoming summer and, um, yes, the topic of swimsuits. Good stuff.

Friday: There was word about bear sightings in Sammamish and officials encouraged people to be safe.

Saturday: It was a busy day with word about Skyline High School's victory in boys soccer, the Relay For Life (also at Skyline), a column about hypnosis and a Great Escape reminder about "Mary Poppins" in Seattle.

Sunday: There was word about the Eastlake High School boys' soccer team and their victory on Saturday. Eastlake and Skyline advance to the state semifinals in soccer. There was a touching column from writer Brian Soergel about the death of a family pet.

And Robert Baldino, a Sammamish Patch contributing writer, looked at the annual police report and noticed that residential burglaries increased more than 50 percent from 2009 to 2010. Police are holding a residential safety forum on Tuesday. Baldino has covered numerous other stories for Sammamish Patch, including the Relay For Life event at Skyline.
