Midwest Food Bank Awarded $10,000 Donation through Liberty Mutual® and Safeco Insurance® Emergency Community Support Grants

Companies Assist Mountain State Agency Alliance in Giving Back to Local Communities During

COVID-19 Crisis

CHARLESTON, West Virginia (May 26, 2020) – Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance announce a $10,000 donation to Midwest Food Bank – nominated by Mary Kerns of Mountain State Agency Alliance - as part of an Emergency Community Support Grant to help independent agents give back to their local community during the COVID-19 crisis. The donation will go directly to Midwest Food Bank, a nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviate hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and provide disaster relief without discrimination.

“My team and I have recognized the hard work and dedication performed by Midwest Food Bank during this pandemic and we are incredibly thankful for Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance for stepping up to the plate and providing extra funds to help the community when we need it most,” said Mary Kerns with Mountain State Agency Alliance. “Midwest Food Bank has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and the $10,000 donation will help them continue to make a difference to the community they serve.”

Midwest Food Bank will use the $10,000 grant to bring additional tractor trailer loads of food and equipment needed to distribute food into the West Virginia communities that have been immensely impacted by COVID-19. The grant will also fund buying bulk food to distribute to 20 nearby organizations which includes local church food banks, recovery centers, soup kitchens and homeless care centers which comes at no cost to them.

“The goal of the Emergency Community Support Grants is to help our independent agents make an immediate impact during this critical time in the local communities where we live and work,” said Alexis Holzer, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance Independent Agent Giving Program Manager.
