Public Notification - No Wake Zone In City Of Charleston

Per the US Army Corp of Engineers 'No Wake' buoys are not a feasible choice due to a narrow navigational channel.

The City of Charleston is pursuing an area on the Elk River to be designated a “No Wake Zone”. The proposed area being the water course between the Quarrier Street Bridge and the Lee Street Bridge (roughly River Mile 0.25 and 0.40). This area also being the location of the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center boat dock and kayak launch.

Per the US Army Corp of Engineers “No Wake” buoys are not a feasible choice due to a narrow navigational channel. Thus, “No Wake” signs are proposed to be mounted on said bridge piers and or banks of the river and enforced by the Federal, State, and Local Authorities.
