The 100 Best Places to Raise a Family in Wisconsin. How Do Brookfield and Elm Grove Rank?

WAUKESHA COUNTY-- Just in time for Summer 2016, Niche.com took a look at the best places to raise a family in states across the country.

According to its rankings, Wisconsin offers more than a few possibilities.

In the national rankings, Devon, Pennsylvania earned top honors. In Wisconsin, it's all about Cedarburg. The Metro Milwaukee area took five of the top 10 spots with Elm Grove (2), Whitefish Bay (3), Brookfield (4), Mequon (9) and Fox Point (10) placing high in the rankings.

The lists were created using information about public schools, crime rates, cost of living and family-friendly amenities. Data was pulled from the U.S. Census, FBI, BLS, CDC and other sources, according to Niche.

Elm Grove is a suburb in Wisconsin with 5,985 residents. It has very high home values, high rent costs, and very low unemployment levels. Its citizens generally have very high education levels and very high income levels.

Housing: The housing in the area is very well maintained/ developed. There are many large houses that each have there own unique style but still blend into the neighborhood. Yards in the area are large and great for families.

Crime & Safety: There is very little crime in the area. This is a result of a more than adequate police force and residents who are always on the lookout for one another. I have always felt safe living in this are and I know many people who often leave doors unlocked and garages open.

Employment: Most people in the area have very good jobs in which they make enough income to be considered middle or upper middle class citizens. Some major employers are Miller Coors, Harley Davidson, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, Froedert Medical Center and GE.

Crime & Safety: Very safe area. Not many crimes, if any, reported in the cul-de-sac. The police are rarely visible but are easily reached.

Overall Experience: I loved living in this house. The neighbors were friendly and the location was ideal for kids growing up. The only bad thing was the train in the back yard, but you get used to it.

Local Businesses: There is a large variety of stores in Brookfield. Although there are not very many small businesses, there are countless shops that provide me with everything I need. Dozens of grocery stores and pharmacies, many retail and clothing stores. There is a store for almost anything you could need in Brookfield.

Visiting: With Milwaukee being only twenty minutes away, there is always something to do. There are music and ethnic festivals, theater and music performances, and many great museums.
