2 Families Displaced By Brookfield Apartment Fire

Two families were displaced after a fire in an upstairs apartment early Wednesday morning.

BROOKFIELD, WI — Two families were displaced by a fire in a Brookfield apartment building early Wednesday morning.

No injuries were reported after the Brookfield Fire Department extinguished the fire in the second story of an apartment building in the 18000 block of Taywood Circle. The two families who were displaced by the fire are being assisted by the Red Cross, the fire department said.

Fire officials said that the Waukesha County 911 Communications Center received a 911 call reporting the fire at approximately 1:17 a.m. First-arriving fire units reported light smoke coming from a second-floor apartment window.

Firefighters contained the fire to the kitchen of a single upstairs apartment unit. The building's sprinkler system nearly extinguished the fire in part before firefighters arrived, officials said.

There is no damage estimate at this time, officials said. Currently, the fire is not deemed suspicious after an initial investigation by the fire department.
