BEHS Sophomore Katie Andrae Earns Girl Scout Gold Award

News from the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast:

Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast has awarded Brookfield resident Katie Andrae the highest award in Girl Scouting: the Girl Scout Gold Award.

This prestigious award symbolizes outstanding accomplishment in leadership development and community service.

Girl Scouts who receive this award have completed several project components and have taken action for approximately 65 to 80 hours to complete a project that makes a significant impact in her community and beyond. A Girl Scout who has earned her Girl Scout Gold Award immediately rises one rank in any of the U.S. military branches.

Andrae, from Girl Scout Troop 2103 and a sophomore at , partnered with the to help bring their facility in compliance with the new standards of the 2009 Wisconsin Act 90 Anti-Puppy Mill law.

Katie provided heavy-duty tarps to cover the outdoor kennels in order to provide protection in accordance to the law. She also wrote standard operating procedures for sustainability of the proper maintenance of the outdoor kennels and new tarps, reorganized the storage garage, and provided signage and direction for handling donations. Kathryn also raised awareness by creating a presentation to educate both the community and younger Girl Scout troops.

"The Girl Scout Gold Award carries responsibility along with honor. When a Girl Scout achieves this award, she also makes a lifetime commitment to being courageous, confident, and a person of character," said council Interim CEO Carol Robinson.

This year, 16 young women earned their Girl Scout Gold Award and 127 earned their Girl Scout Silver Award.
