In Wisconsin, the state imposed strict visitation rules. According to the State Department of Health Services:

  • Long-term care facility total: Among the 1,289 public health investigations in long-term care facilities, 418 facilities have had single confirmed cases and 799 facilities have had less than 5 confirmed cases. The median number of confirmed cases per investigation for long-term care facilities is 3, the average is 8, and the range is 1 to 117 confirmed cases.
  • Skilled nursing facility (nursing homes) total: there have been a total of 506 public health investigations at nursing homes (active and closed investigations) including 272 active investigations.

To assist Americans in gauging their best options for long- and short-term care, U.S. News this year also added a patient safety summary on each facility’s profile, which includes self-reported COVID-19 cases, safety measures taken and other related guidance concerning the pandemic.

In addition to this year’s rankings, U.S. News also published companion research focused on nursing home patient safety during COVID-19 and what to expect as nursing homes resume in-person visits.
