Culver's Donates Thousands for Azana Spa Families

Culver's in Elm Grove is donating more than $14,000 the the Azana Benefit Fund for the families of the three mothers slain in the Oct. 21 spa shooting.

The store, which just recently opened around the busy Moorland-Bluemound Road corner from Azana Salon & Spa, held a big event Nov. 8, saying it would donate 100% of all sales from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The community responded in force, with the restaurant's drive-through lane snaking back out onto Bluemound Road and patrons eating quickly to give up their tables to more families.

Red Oak Counseling of Elm Grove, led by Roxanne Guenther, also organized a raffle that was held in Culver's Nov. 8, which raised another $1,480 for the spa's benefit fund at Associated Bank.

"We want to thank the community for their support during the fundraiser, said Brian Shecterle, one of the owners of Culver’s of Elm Grove. "We’re fortunate to live in a community where people really care about others. Our contribution is just a small way we can assist the families who suffered a loss."

Culver's planned to hand a check Friday to Azana owner Tami Gemmell.

Culver's is one of many businesses and organizations helping the families of the women killed: Zina Daniel Haughton, Cary Robuck and Maelyn Lind. 8-Twelve MVP Bar & Grill raised about $62,000 for the benefit fund; and more than 115 area and national spas pledged to donate a share of their proceeds Tuesday as a Cut it Out domestic abuse awareness and prevention event.
