Dog-Friendly Car Show to Benefit Elmbrook Humane Society

The Pop Up for Pups Dough-Nation Car Show was so successful the first time around, they're doing it again to benefit another humane society.

WAUKESHA, WI — A dog-friendly car show fundraiser to benefit a local humane society was so successful, organizers say, they're doing it again.

The Pop Up for Pups Dough-Nation Car Show will be held Sat. Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fischers Creative Art Center, 223 Maple Ave. in Waukesha, with all proceeds going to benefit the Elmbrook Humane Society.

In April, Toppers Pizza teamed up with the Lower Standards Car Club to host the first Pop-Up car show. They raised more than $2,500 in proceeds and had more than 250 cars come out. Officials with the humane society were bowled over at the effort.

"They were ecstatic. We ended up doing a check presentation for them," Kasha Ksobiech of Topper's said. "They said it was one of the coolest events that we had done with them and that the people just loved it."

Attendance in April was more than the 600 Facebook invites they and the car club sent out.

So they thought, "why not do it again?"

At the October 14 event, there will be raffles, pumpkin painting for the children, other family-friendly games and of course, dogs and plenty of cars. The Elmbrook Humane Society will also be there with adoptable dogs.

Heather Gehrke, Executive Director of the Elmbrook Humane Society said funds generated from the car show will without a doubt be put to good use.

"Among our biggest needs are just the day-to-day care. We have a facility that can house up to 100 cats and 30 small animals. When you think of how much it costs to care for your pet at home, multiply it by 30 or 100 and that's where we are at," she said.

That care extends to medical supplies, at times including costly X-Rays and surgery for pets with more serious medical needs.

There's no minimum donation to attend the event, even with a car to show.
