Hungry? Deptolla Gives Jake's Burger a Beefy Review

Two months after opened in the former site of Haute Taco, it received a 3-star ("very good") rating Friday from JSOnline.com dining critic Carol Deptolla.

Jake's does burgers right, she says.

"Just about everything you'd eat or drink here is better and more thoughtful than a greasy spoon," Deptolla writes in her full review.

In her even more detailed audio review on Newsradio 620 WTMJ, Deptolla talks about its spiked milkshakes, onion rings and more. 

Chef Jake Replogle, who with his wife Karen also operates Jake's steakhouse in Pewaukee, he decided burgers and American fare were a "better fit" than Mexican at the Haute Taco location in the Sendik's Towne Centre, 18905 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield.

The burgers, prepared medium with a house blend of short rib, brisket and sirloin, include toppings such as melted brie truffle cheese and haystack onion strings. They range from about $7 to $11.

Salads include roasted beet and wild arugula, and Fuji apple and blue cheese. There is a children's menu with a burger, chicken tenders and grilled cheese.

Jake's Burger also offers 20 different wines by the glass, three dozen beers, and a cocktails list. Bottles of wine run about $25 to $60.
