Kevin Baker of Fitness Together® Talks About Community

The Value of the Fitness Community

My name is Kevin Baker, and I’m the owner of two Fitness Together® personal training franchise locations in the Milwaukee area. I have owned my locations since March 2018 after a career in corporate information technology.

What good is something amazing if it cannot or does not help the environment in which it exists? I have not only experienced a life-changing transformation in my health and fitness, but I see it daily in the results of my clients. From “I’m down 17 pounds in 1 month” to “I lost 3.5% body fat in just three months,” I witness change regularly. I honestly get emotional every time I see the members of my fitness community accomplish goals they could not reach on their own.

My vision for our company, Fitness Together®, is to “operate as a center of wellness in our community where we can truly change lives to allow for individuals to enrich their living.” It sounds simple, but it is really the heart of what we strive for in our daily client interactions. My studios operate at their peak when we have just 75 active clients, so our direct reach is pretty limited, but the impact of those 75 lives can be exponential.

I believe when a person starts to experience change within themselves, they naturally impact the community and lives around them. Think about an individual who has lost weight. I remember my dad’s reaction when he first noticed that my body had changed. At first, he thought I was sick. Then he realized that I was doing something amazing but unexpected. He immediately started talking to me about his health and desire to have better nutrition and fitness. To be clear, I'm not particularly eager to broadcast my fitness lifestyle, because I believe everyone must find their path on their wellness journey, but the impact of making these changes is usually unavoidable.

My dad lives a few hundred miles away, so my impact is limited to sparse interactions, but my daily impact is also apparent. It is common for me to have wellness conversations with newly met colleagues. Conversations like, “I have been trying to get back into exercise,” “I really need to lose these few pounds,” or even “I don’t like whom I have allowed myself to become, and it is time to get back in control,” happen regularly. Some of it is because of my profession, but much of it is because I represent a healthier lifestyle to my community.

Imagine this impact multiplied by 75 clients, then by two studios, and then multiply those results by the number of individuals that take action…simply because they have the spark needed to start making a change for themselves. The value of the fitness community cannot be easily measured, but the impact it is capable of achieving is great!

Fitness Together® has two locations in the Milwaukee area: 18000 W Bluemound Road, Brookfield, Wis., and 2525 N Mayfair Road, Wauwatosa, Wis.
