My name is Kevin Baker, and I’m the owner of two Fitness Together personal training franchise locations in the Milwaukee area. I have owned my locations since March, 2018 after a career in corporate information technology.

Let’s talk about motivation today.

Most of our clients come to our studios after a number of attempts to solve their fitness challenges on their own. In fact, on average, our typical new client has tried six other solutions before they reach out to us.

At Fitness Together, we start our relationships by finding the fundamental reason, or motivation, which led the client to seek us out. From injury to weight loss, we see many different cases that have a personal motivation behind them, eventually bringing them to take the crucial step to learn more about the benefits of a personal trainer.

While there are a multitude of workout offerings, getting to the heart of the client’s desires to maintain or improve their health is not a common approach. We have, however, found that this is one of the most substantial means for a client to achieve lasting success.

For me, I had been in a downward health spiral for many years but failed to take responsibility for my wellness because it didn’t matter much to me. However, once my wife became pregnant, and I had to look at my life in an extrinsic sense, I identified with my motivation. After working with my Fitness Together team, I was able to use this outside drive as the basis for me to commit to setting an ongoing goal. As my daughter has grown into different phases of her life, I have been able to reaffirm my commitment to better health. I was able to determine that I couldn’t do it for myself, but I knew that I wanted to be active, and not just present, in my daughter’s life.

It sounds easy, but the reality is, while we are accustomed to providing for others, providing for ourselves is often a rarity. Most people I meet have centered their lives on helping others reach goals, become more successful, or maintain their health. They are so focused on everyone else, or even their career, that they have put themselves as the last priority. When they realize that they have let their health and wellness slide to an undesired state, it is often too late to do much about it on their own. Frequently there is a trigger that leads them to take this look in the mirror, both figuratively and literally. For me it was my wife’s pregnancy; for others it is a diagnosis, dreaded weight threshold, recovering from an injury, diminishing skill at a favorite sport, or just not being able to keep up with their friends or partner.

Whatever the reason, it is never too late to take a step in the right direction and to use this trigger as the necessary motivation to start making lasting lifestyle changes.

Whether you are looking for the concentrated focus of a personal trainer or want to get back into exercise in any other setting, you should consider your motivation for taking that next step. If you can tap into your subconscious wants or needs, then you will be much more likely to have a tangible reason for keeping on course and achieving your fitness goals.

Whatever you decide, I hope that you can focus on yourself and start progressing down your desired wellness path. As always, I appreciate you taking a few moments to walk with me on our fitness journey.
