Midwest Gaming Classic Looking to Move from Brookfield to Milwaukee

The convention, which brings $500,000 into Brookfield's economy, is looking to move to Milwaukee. The city will attempt to keep the business.

The Midwest Gaming Classic convention, usually held in Brookfield, brings about $500,000 into the local economy but organizers are looking into bigger venues in Milwaukee, reported Fox6Now.

The annual video game festival sprouted from groups of gamers recognizing lesser-known consoles, most notably the Atari Jaguar.

The event, which started in 2001, brings in about 7,000 people from all over the world and has traditionally been held at the Sheraton Hotel.

Milwaukee recently eliminated a law that made it expensive to bring in coin-operated games giving the convention an opportunity to look into other locations.

The City of Brookfield is attempting to keep the convention and is even thinking about construction of a new convention center, reported Fox6Now.

“The festival has really evolved into a celebration of the games we all enjoy and remember,” said Dan Loosen, co-founder of the Midwest Gaming Classic, during a Patch interview in 2011. “People come out because they want to reconnect and reminisce those memories, as well as meet other people doing the same.”
