Open House Features St. Dominic's New Athletics, Arts Facilities

The public is invited to check out St. Dominic Catholic Parish's new facilities Saturday and Sunday.

Drive past the construction every day at on Capitol Drive? Wonder what's going on there?

Here's your chance to see for yourself.

The parish is holding open houses from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday to celebrate the completion of their Phase One Master Plan of capital improvements. Bishop Donald Hying will bless and dedicate the facilities after the 9 a.m. Mass Sunday.

St. Dominic's, 18255 W. Capitol Dr., built a 12,000-square-foot athletic facility with two side-by-side basketball and volleyball competition courts, four basketball practice courts and three volleyball practice courts.

A newly designed St. Dominic Knight logo is on the maple floor and the air-conditioned gym also has new bleacher seating and sound system, four scoreboards and storage rooms. There also are team rooms, concessions, offices, restrooms and a new lobby.

The previous gym was renovated into a multi-purpose Arts and Activities Center, with a 25-foot-by-25-foot stage, lighting, sound with digital mixing board, band practice room, stage prep areas, accessibility stage ramp and retractable video screen. Future master plan phases call for adding a video projector and recording equipment.

More parking, walkways and landscaping also were added as part of the construction project.
