Rummage Daze at Wirth Park Rescheduled to Saturday

The large rummage sale was supposed to be held May 5 but was canceled due to rain and wet ground. It has been rescheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 12.

To the frustration of some vendors and bargain-hunters, the 2012 Brookfield Jaycees Rummage Daze was canceled Saturday due to rain and wet grounds.

It has been rescheduled for this Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 12 at , 2585 N. Pilgrim Rd.

Gary Rollinger, co-chair of the event, said Monday the Jaycees decided at 5:30 a.m. Saturday to call off the day's event. It was raining then and there was concern that wet park grounds would be damaged by the event.

"Unfortunately, we've had a lot of postponements in recent years," Rollinger said.

But moving the community-wide rummage and craft sale from May to June or later would be difficult, he said, because "the availability of the park is very limited" in summer.

In 2011 Rummage Daze also was canceled — a couple hours into the event and held two weeks later. photo from the 2011 event offer a glimpse of the type of items sold.
