Wisconsin COVID-19 Cases Rising — Especially People In Their 20s

MILWAUKEE, WI — Coronavirus cases are back on the rise in Wisconsin, and health officials say people in their 20s have seen the biggest increase in COVID-19 cases.

State figures also showed that Wisconsin's daily COVID-19 positive case count is approaching the state's high-water mark for cases, which was set in late May.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Sunday Wisconsin saw 457 new COVID-19 cases. Wisconsin has seen more than 400 new cases for five consecutive days as of Sunday, matching a five-day run starting on May 20.

The state's seven-day rolling average for COVID-19 cases is also rivaling Wisconsin's high point earlier this year.

According to the latest figures, Sunday's seven-day rolling average was 418 cases, meaning that the average new case count over the last seven days was 418. That figure compares with May 30 when the seven-day rolling average was 479.

The state's seven-day rolling average dipped to 266 on June 17, but increased every day from there to get us where we are today.

Wisconsin's 457 cases reported Sunday represented a 7.1 percent positive case rate — the highest since May 20 when the positive case rate was 8 percent.

According to a USA Today report, people in their 20s are seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases. That age group has seen 64 percent more cases over the last seven days than they did the previous week.
