After a round of unseasonably warm weather over Christmas, here comes the snow! Here's how much, and when it arrives.

MILWAUKEE, WI — After a run of unseasonably warm days, we're seeing a round of snow move in Monday night. According to the National Weather Service, a period of accumulating snow is expected later today and tonight across the region.

The snow will begin to accumulate from northwest to southeast later this morning into this afternoon, with the greatest accumulations occurring this evening between 6 p.m. and midnight.

The entire area of Southeastern Wisconsin will see some snow, with the highest totals expected to occur north of Interstate 94. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for this area.

The National Weather Service says snow will develop well north of the Interstate 94 corridor by
early this afternoon, and spread quickly southeast across the area. Accumulating snow is expected for the evening commute.

Gusty westerly winds may cause reduced visibility due to blowing snow. The snow will taper off from west to east during the overnight hours.

Weather At A Glance

Snow expected: Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches. Southwest to west winds gusting as high as 30 miles per hour.

Location: Columbia, Dodge and Washington Counties, with lesser amounts south.

Timing: From noon today to 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute. Blowing snow may reduce visibility values.

Monday

A slight chance of rain and snow between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., then snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 35. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday Night

Snow, mainly before 5 a.m. Patchy blowing snow between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Patchy fog after 7 p.m. Low around 27. Breezy, with a west wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
