Meat Packing Plant Proposed For Franklin; Public Hearing Set

Franklin officials said the proposed Strauss Brands facility is designed to process 250 to 500 head of cattle per day.

FRANKLIN, WI — Franklin residents who want to speak about a proposed meat packing plant expansion will get their chance after the owners of Strauss Brands proposed building a new 150,000 square foot facility at W. Loomis Rd. and Monarch Drive.

According to a JSOnline report, Strauss Brands entered into a contract with the City of Franklin to build the new facility in stages between 2021 and 2022,

The public hearing is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Common Council chambers at Franklin City Hall, 9229 W. Loomis Road.

According to information posted in the city's public hearing notice, the 152,035 square foot building would be staffed by 261 employees in the facility production area and 11 in an office area.

City officials said the facility is designed to process 250 to 500 head of cattle per day, including cattle pens, a harvest floor, carcass coolers, fabrication areas, packaging areas, warehouse areas, shipping docks, operations offices, employee welfare spaces and associated mechanical support facilities and spaces.
