Milwaukee Milkmen Win Division Title, Head To Championship Series

The best-of-seven American Association Championship Series between the Milkmen and Sioux Falls Canaries starts Saturday night.

FRANKLIN, WI — By virtue of their victory in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Winnipeg Goldeyes, the Milwaukee Milkmen baseball team clinched the best regular season record in the American Association.

Team officials said first-year manager Anthony Barone and the rest of the baseball staff successfully piloted the squad through plenty of adversity to build from expansion team to postseason contender in only the second year of the franchise's existence.

The best-of-seven American Association Championship Series between the Milkmen and Sioux Falls Canaries will begin on Saturday evening.

The series will continue with three games at The Birdcage in Sioux Falls before possibly returning to Franklin Field.

Game 1: Sep. 12 in Milwaukee, 6:35 p.m.

Game 2: Sep. 13 in Milwaukee, 4:30 p.m.

Game 3: Sep. 15 in Sioux Falls, 7:05 p.m.

Game 4: Sep. 16 in Sioux Falls, 7:05 p.m.

Game 5 (if necessary): 9/17 @ Sioux Falls, 7:05 p.m.

Game 6 (if necessary): 9/18 @ Milwaukee, 6:35 p.m.

Game 7 (if necessary): 9/19 @ Milwaukee, 3:05 p.m.

The battle to crown the league's champion will pit the top pitching team in the American Association versus the top offensive squad.

The Milkmen have assembled the circuit's best pitching staff, which has compiled a 3.65 earned run average while being supported by the tightest defensive unit.

Milwaukee has committed a league-low 39 errors and posted a cumulative .981 fielding percentage.

The Canaries, meanwhile, have pounded the baseball all summer long. They lead the league with 342 runs scored as well as a collective .798 on-base plus slugging average.
