Saturday Marks Second of Back-to-Back Open Markets

To call this weekend the calm before the storm might be a little dramatic, but let's face it, next week is when all the fun begins.

Village Days and the Greendale 75th Anniversary Celebration begin Aug. 7 and run through Aug. 11, with a whole lot of fun sandwiched in between.

Many of you might be laying low this weekend, or scoping out a spot to see next week's laser light show or fireworks. But for those of you who are venturing out, why not hit up the Open Market on Broad Street.

It's the second straight Saturday the market will be in full swing, but vendors won't be out Aug. 10 during Village Days, so Saturday is the day to stock up on all the goodies you need to get through the next two weeks.

The market is from 8 a.m. to noon.

• Real planes: Before Disney Pixar's sure-to-be mega-hitPlanes hits theaters next week, get over to the Milwaukee Lakefront for the real thing. The Milwaukee Air & Water Show is Aug. 3-4.
• Fair guide: It’s the first full weekend of the Wisconsin State Fair. Consult our handy State Fair guide for pertinent information, and then vote for your favorite new foods andfavorite foods on a stick.
• Brewers in town: The Milwaukee Brewers are homeagainst Washington Friday through Sunday for a three-game series, the first games in which the team’s $10 voucher program is in place. Everyone attending an August game at Miller Park receives the voucher toward concessions, merchandise or a ticket later this year.
• EAA Airventure: Want more planes? The massive celebration of experimental aircraft and all things that flycontinues through Monday in Oshkosh. If you like anything airborne, this is the place to be.
• UFC fighter at Romine's: Ultimate Fighting Championship fans can get up close and personal with Gray Maynard, who will be signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans at Romine’s High Pockets in Greenfield from 7-9 p.m. Friday.
