Barbecue Supply Company Opens in Greendale Next Month

GREENDALE, WI —Owner Mike Luce said the soon-to-open Barbecue Supply Company in Downtown Greendale will be for every chef, regardless of grilling expertise.

"We wanted to cater to everyone, from your backyard cooks all the way up to the competition circuit," said Luce, on a video posted on the store's website. "We have a passion for barbecue, and we want to service the people who have a passion for it. And if you don't, if you're just (newly) getting involved, that's great too."

Luce said he got involved in barbecue as a hobby only about five years ago. As it quickly grew into a passion, Luce said he and his wife Erica realized there was something lacking on the local barbecue landscape.

"There wasn't a place that we could go that had everything," Luce said. "So, we wanted to have a brick-and-mortar store that would run the gamut."

That is the plan for Barbecue Supply Company, 5668 Broad Street, which is scheduled to open April 9. According to the Journal Sentinel, the 1000-square-foot showroom will feature grills and smokers, rubs, sauces, fuels and supplies.

If there is a tool, sauce or rub a customer would like to see the store carry, Luce said he is open to suggestions via social media.

Luce said there are several elements that make barbecue unique, like how the food and cooking styles can be a little different depending on the region.

But Luce said the beauty of barbecue is that it brings people together. That is what he hopes the store will do: offer more than just a shopping experience.

"We want to be a place where you can learn and talk to other people who share your passion for barbecuing," Luce said.

The Luce's are in the process of building up the interior of the store. On the Barbecue Supply Company's Facebook page earlier this week, there were photos of the new signs going up on the building, which used to house The Popcorn Shoppe.

Luce said he believes he and Erica found the perfect spot for their store in Downtown Greendale.

"Why did we land in Greendale?" Luce asked. "It's pretty simple, once you get here, you'll fall in love with it the same way we did . . . the Farmers Market, the parades, the summer activities. If you haven't visited Greendale, you really should, not just for the Barbecue Supply Company, but for everything else Greendale has to offer."
