Expensive Water Supply, Distribution Upgrades in the Works
The first project of the Village's major water supply main and distribution main improvement plans gained the Village Trustees' support Tuesday.

The Village of Greendale’s major water supply main and distribution main improvement plans are underway.
As part of the first project, the Village approved a bid for work to be done to revise and replace water valves on a supply main coming from Milwaukee and check existing pipeline and thrust restraint systems to make sure they are adequate for the increased water pressure Milwaukee is upgrading to.
“We’re hopeful we won’t have that problem, but we have to verify that,” Chris Kaempfer of Kaempfer & Associates said Tuesday at the Village Board meeting.

In addition, the Village will replace a 12-inch water main between 60th Street and Mansfield Drive.
“This pipeline has been undersized basically since it was connected,” Kaempfer said.

American Sewer Services was the winning bidder with a bid of just more than $281,000, besting four other prequalified contractors.
The Village Trustees opted not to tackle a third part of the initial project, which called for water main improvements under Delrose Court. That main broke after the road was repaved last year and has experienced four or five breaks in recent years.
But Village Manager Todd Michaels said Greendale has at least 10 streets that have mains below them that also have five to 10 previous breaks in them and fixing any of those makes more sense than taking on the Delrose Court project. Adding the Delrose work would have bumped the total cost to more than $417,000.
The Village Board on Tuesday also approved a contract for $567,000 to Mainline Sewer and Water of West Allis for an elevated water storage tank.
