Free Shredding Event Planned for Saturday

Each Greendale household will be allowed two banker-size boxes full of documents to shred.

The Village of Greendale along with DPW and Park and Recreation will be providing Greendale residents (households only; not for commercial use) the opportunity to bring their confidential and personal documents for secure and environmentally responsible “on-site” shredding.

Each Greendale household will be allowed two banker-size boxes full of documents to shred.

The free shredding event is Saturday, October 10 from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the Greendale Municipal Lot (off of Parking Street).

Only “confidential” documents will be accepted. Examples include: bank statements, invoices, medical records, credit card offers, and pay-stubs.

Staples and small paper clips are okay, but you're asked to remove large clips and binders.

No plastics or plastic bags with documents inside will be accepted, because they clog up the machine and create “contaminated” products. That means the materials won't be able to be recycled.

Glossy paper, magazines, books, newspapers, credit and ID cards, and other non-confidential documents will not be accepted.

Each person must bring a valid driver’s license proving residency. Current utility or tax bills listing Greendale residency will also be accepted proof.

The spring collection generated 4,100 pounds of shredded material. Paper shredded from the Greendale event was made into paper toweling and toilet paper.

The free event is sponsored by: Birmingham Recycling LLC and J&J Contractors I LLC.
