Greendale Baseball Team in Loaded WIAA Sectional

The state's last three WIAA summer baseball champions are in the same bracket.

The WIAA summer baseball postseason begins Tuesday with 55 teams eyeing the state’s top prize.

The Greendale Panthers (10-14) are the seventh seed in Sectional 4, and will play 10th-seeded West Allis Central at The Rock Sports Complex off 76th Street in Franklin at 5 p.m. July 9. The Panthers and Bulldogs have not yet met this season.

The winner advances to play at second-seeded New Berlin West (18-4) at 5 p.m. July 12. The Panthers lost twice to West by identical 8-5 scores in late June.

Greendale has had a share of close games this year. Of their eight losses by three or fewer runs, half have been by a lone tally.

Reigning state champion Oak Creek (19-6) is the top seed and received a first-round bye. Franklin (20-6), the third seed, won state titles in 2010 and 2011.

Sectional games are Monday, July 15, at Whitnall High School, with semifinals at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The championship is at 5 p.m.

Plymouth, Germantown and Kettle Moraine are the top seeded teams in the state’s other three sectionals.
