Greendale Education Foundation Program Receives Student-Raised Donation

KidBoosters received $1,277 on June 7, 2013, thanks to the Greendale High School ACCESS program's students.

The Greendale Education Foundation (GEF) has received a donation of $1,277 for its KidBoosters Program.

Funds were raised through the efforts of Greendale High School students and were presented to KidBoosters Program founder Judy Fons on Friday.

To earn the funds, seniors in Greendale High’s Alternative Curricular Concepts for Educational Support and Success Program designed, produced and sold buttons to school faculty and staff. A $10 donation entitled a staff member to participate in a KidBoosters “jeans” week; a $20 donation allowed staff members to wear shorts to work for the week.

The foundation’s KidBoosters Program was founded in 2012 in response to the increasing number of Greendale children and families living in difficult financial circumstances. It operates as a means to advocate on behalf of children and young people.

KidBoosters gives Greendale children and families a little “boost” by matching specific student needs with appropriate resources when there is no known family, district or community support system in place to address the need.

The ACCESS program is an in-house at-risk program that serves about 80 students per year. The program offers support to help students develop the skills necessary to independently manage the academic responsibilities of a high-expectation setting, such as post-secondary education or training.

Senior ACCESS students have a 30-hour service requirement. This fundraiser helped fulfill that obligation.
