Greendale Golfers Place Sixth at WIAA State Meet

The 2013 appearance is the Panthers' first appearance as a team at the state tournament in years.

The Greendale golf team, playing in its first WIAA Division 1 State Meet in years, finished an impressive sixth of 16 teams at two-day tournament at University Ridge in Madison Monday and Tuesday.

The Panthers had the fifth-best score on Tuesday, a 315, rocketing them near the top of the standings. They finished with a two-day total of 642, just two strokes behind fifth-place Stoughton.

Cedarburg dominated the tournament with a 598, 17 strokes better than runner-up Brookfield Central.

Greendale's Nate Thomson finished tied for 35th overall with a 156 after shooting a 77 on Tuesday. Teammates Alex Rendon and Matt Tomczyk, who both shot 79s on the second day, were close behind with 159 and 160, respectively.

Greendale's Dan Jensen shaved seven strokes off his first-day total to shoot 80 on Tuesday and finish with a 167.

Greendale's fifth golfer, Austin Tans, finished with a two-day total of 216.

The Panthers were tied for 10th after the first round, with a 39-over 327.

Thompson shot a 79 on Monday, followed by Rendon's 80 and Tomczyk's 81.
